Carol Miller grew up in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, then headed off to New York City where she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in commercial photography. After graduating, Carol went northbound, planning to stay in Maine only for a summer course at the Maine Photographic Workshop, but she immediately fell in love with the state, and as she explains, she “forgot to leave.” Carol worked at the Maine Photographic Workshop for 8 years and pursued her film photography career through the avenues of wedding, portrait, and event photography. She also both photographed and produced several installments of the “A Day in the Life” series at the Camden Herald, where she enjoyed learning about new people and experiencing new places.
As assistant media manager at Compass Light, Carol keeps track of all the media coming into the barn and organizes it in preparation for edits. When Carol is not in the barn managing media, she is in the ocean. She is an avid scuba diver and swimmer, boasting over 100 dives, and multiple 5k swims. If you ask her what she’s doing over the weekend, she may tell you that she’s swimming out to Ilseboro, one of coastal Maine’s 3,000 islands.
