Scott joined Compass Light in early 2018, after several years working as a freelance writer and filmmaker. Originally from New Haven County, Connecticut, Scott graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore with a degree in English literature and a concentration in creative writing. He attended the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland where he worked with a photographer on the story of the lone year-round couple on a small Maine island. And through the Island Institute, he served as the William Bingham Fellow for Rural Education on the island of Frenchboro (year-round population: 65), teaching in the one-room schoolhouse and working with the town's select board on municipal projects. Since graduating from The Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in 2010, he has worked as a creative writing and multimedia instructor at several schools and arts programs, an online news producer at Education Week, and more recently, as the in-house filmmaker at the Island Institute.
