Sea shells have held an eternal fascination for many cultures. No other natural history object, it could be argued, have more thoroughly gratified our human impulse to collect beautiful items from a world beyond our own. They are the jade and diamonds of the sea. Frank Lloyd Wright once described them as the housing "with exactly what we lack, inspired form." 7 Sea Shells is an original video art installation (with companion book) that explores the opportunities found at the intersection of art and science, in the service of communicating difficult environmental issues to a general audience.
"What does the dissolution of such beauty look like? What can we hear of the ocean's future within 7 sea shells?" -David Conover
