2018, 12 minutes, OAT Originals
In this breathtakingly gorgeous film directed and shot by American filmmakers Cecily Pingree and Lindsay Mann, we are swept into the bucolic lives of a Sicilian family near Agrigento. At least these lives feel bucolic at first. Parents Olga and Enzo manage a family cheese production, and their two sons each tend to their own flock of sheep in the mountains outside Agrigento. The younger son, Angelo, is often inspired by his love of nature to let loose with his very robust and evocative singing. Underneath the pastoral pleasantries, we soon see surprises. Angelo insists on transporting himself and his flock’s milk by donkey, even if he arrives in town after dark. His frustrated father Enzo wishes his son would get a driver’s license and drive. Angelo’s weary mother Olga longs for a better life, but Angelo has no interest in imagining any other life. This rural family is living and loving in a web of fate that is hundreds and hundreds of years old. Gloriously grounded and absolutely Sicilian! Editor:Daniel Quintanilla. Producer:Halle Johns.
